A license must be obtained to practice pharmacy in the U.S. For this reason, accreditation of pharmacy programs is vital as a license can only be obtained after completion of an accredited pharmacy program. Accreditation means that the pharmacy program was evaluated and met standards established by pharmacy professionals. In addition, accreditation gives students reassurance that their education is of quality and considered valuable in their employment.
The Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) is recognized as the leading authority for pharmacy program accreditation by the U.S. Dept. of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Association (CHEA). The ACPE serves to foster excellence in pharmacy education through establishing standards and guidelines for pharmacy programs in addition to helping develop and improve pharmacy education.
